Democratic Values

The Democratic Party celebrates the United States of America, a nation of diverse peoples and backgrounds.

We believe in fairness and equal opportunity for all Americans.  Chances in life must not be determined  by our zip code, race, gender, faith, sexual orientation or gender identity.

We acknowledge that our nation's history includes slavery, genocide, racial and gender discrimination, and injustice in many forms. 

We are proud and patriotic. Our founding fathers enshrined individual freedom and equality under the law; our history is one of progress toward greater acceptance and more equal opportunity for all. This is the course set by our framers.

We are the party of greater opportunity for more and more Americans.

We believe

We believe in freedom of religion for all religions and that this freedom depends on the separation of church and state.  (1st Amendment)

We believe in common sense gun laws: background checks, waiting periods, and restoring the ban on automatic assault weapons.

The Democratic Party is the party of Social Security, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and the American Rescue Plan.  We believe in providing a fair and effective safety net for families and individuals. 

We believe in taking urgent action at all levels of government to reduce carbon emissions, build a clean energy economy, and mitigate the effects of our warming earth.  This is our obligation to our children and theirs.

We believe individuals have the right to privacy under the 14th Amendment. This privacy protects the right to reproductive choice, marriage equality, and gender equality.

We believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

We are for

We are for taxation that doesn’t favor the rich.

We are for campaign finance reform that will make donations transparent and will not treat corporations as individuals practicing freedom of speech.

We are for government guided by truth and science. We expect government officials, both elected and unelected, to honor their sworn oath to the Constitution over personal ambition, party, or religion.
